Reasons to Choose Blinds Instead of Curtains for Your Home

Posted on

You might be debating whether to install curtains or blinds in your home. The one you prefer depends on your priorities and needs. Consider the following reasons why you might favour blinds.

Make Rooms Appear Larger

Curtains create a lush effect in a room because of their folds of fabric that add softness. However, all this material and visual detailing can make a room appear smaller by taking up space. That's why blinds are a better option if your priority is to make your home feel more open and spacious. Their minimal clean design doesn't add busyness and clutter that crowds the room and makes it feel smaller.

Block Glare and Create Privacy

If you want to block sunlight glare but maintain a view of your garden, then double-roller blinds are a good choice. These models consist of a sunscreen blind as well as a block-out blind. During the day, you can pull down the sunscreen layer to filter brightness. The unique screen fabric also obstructs the view of people outside, so you'll be able to enjoy privacy even if a room faces a busy road. Curtains are available in heavier and sheerer fabrics which you could combine. However, these fabrics aren't all as clever as sunscreen blinds that allow for a one-way view while blocking UV light.

To Match a Modern Aesthetic

You may live in a minimalist and modern home. In this case, it might be better to install blinds as they evoke a more contemporary feel. You could install blinds in a uniform colour like beige, white, navy, or other hues. However, you can also install patterned blinds that offer some of curtains' detailing while retaining a cleaner look. Such decorative blinds are ideal for bedrooms, where you might want to create a luxurious and plush ambience.

For Kitchens and Bathrooms

Blinds provide a better choice for kitchens and bathrooms. These rooms typically have humid atmospheres, particularly when people are cooking or showering. Curtains can get damp and messy and possibly grow mould and mildew.  Additionally, they can get in the way to pose a fire hazard. Blinds, though, use simple flat layers of material that don't encourage moisture to build up to fester. You could install a double-blind model for bathrooms so everyone can shower in private. Blinds are also easier to clean by wiping with a damp cloth. You don't have to remove the window coverings entirely and either put them in the washing machine or send them off to be dry cleaned.
